Hello world

Gretchen oversees daily operations of the LEED department at the U.S. Green Building Council, coordinating physical, financial and personnel resources in support of 40+ staff working on technical development of the LEED rating systems and associated programs. She also serves as a primary internal and external point of contact with the LEED department and with Scot Horst, SVP, LEED. Gretchen works on special projects with Scot, including the LEED Dynamic Plaque. Prior to this role, she managed federal government programs in the LEED department, liaising with federal entities as they greened their building portfolios by implementing LEED, and working with these partners to facilitate peer-to-peer interaction and develop sector-specific tools and resources. In this role she focused on LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) implementation across the government sector. Prior to USGBC, Gretchen was a Program Manager at the University of Maryland Environmental Finance Center (EFC), one of ten centers in the U.S. EPA Environmental Finance Center Network. She assembled and ran a 25-member task force that helped develop Sustainable Maryland Certified, a voluntary sustainability certification for Maryland municipalities, which EFC launched in 2011. She also authored a report about financing and implementing a greenway network for a Virginia municipality, and conducted research on sustainable infrastructure, stormwater management, waste management and source reduction. Gretchen previously worked at the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, focusing on issues from watershed management to green infrastructure and active transportation networks. Before that, she was a Capital Markets Associate at Friedman, Billings, Ramsey, Inc., an investment bank in Arlington, VA. She received her Master of City Planning and Certificate in Urban Design from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and her BA in Latin and Politics from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA.
