Howard Frumkin is Dean of the University of Washington School of Public Health. He is an internist, environmental and occupational medicine specialist, and epidemiologist, who has worked in academia (at Penn and Emory) and public service (at the CDC). He serves on the Boards of the Bullitt Foundation, the Children and Nature Network, the Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute, and USGBC, on the NRC Committee on Sustainability Linkages in the Federal Government, and on Advisory Boards to the Yale Climate and Energy Institute, Procter & Gamble’s Sustainability program, and the National Sustainable Communities Coalition. He is the author or co-author of over 200 scientific journal articles and chapters. His books include Urban Sprawl and Public Health (2004), Environmental Health: From Global to Local (2005, 2010), Safe and Healthy School Environments (2006), Green Healthcare Institutions: Health, Environment, Economics (2007), and Making Healthy Places: Designing and Building for Health, Well-Being, and Sustainability ( 2011). He was educated at Brown (AB), Penn (MD), and Harvard (MPH and DrPH).
