Joël Courchesne, Registered Senior Architect, LEED AP BD+C

As a professional architect with 20 years of practice. Joël worked in Toronto and Montreal and his affiliation with the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) have allowed him to acquire a broad knowledge of sustainable design. He started his journey in the CaGBC as a member of the Products Steering Committee from 2003 to 2006 and participated in various committees from the start up to today and lately as a Director of the CaGBC (assigned seat) in 2008-2009. He is one of the founding directors of the Quebec Chapter of the CaGBC, as well as past-president. He is also a certification revue team leader for one of the tree LEED review teams for the CaGBC and has been part of the Faculty since 2008.

Joël works as an architect and specialist in sustainable design and thrive to develop partnerships with other professionals and organisations such as Hydro-Quebec, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), the Agency of the Energy Efficiency of Quebec (AEÉ), and the Quebecois Association for the Control of Energy (AQMÉ). His work encompasses many roles, from project management and team leadership for architectural projects to conducting market research and authoring reports.

Joël is a USGBC Faculty member. USGBC Faculty are the official instructors of USGBC's instructor-led workshops working with USGBC's education delivery partners. As USGBC Faculty, Joël is authorized to teach the following instructor-led workshops:

  • LEED 101: Green Building Basics and LEED
  • LEED 201: Core Concepts and Strategies
  • BDC 251: Understanding the Building Design and Construction LEED Rating Systems
  • BDC 301: Implementing the Building Design and Construction LEED Rating Systems
