Jonathan Burgess is the Vice President of Sustainable Operations for The
Spinnaker Group, a premier green-building consulting firm based in South Florida.
Jonathan's professional experience includes site design, land planning and
LEED project management for major civic, commercial, institutional,
industrial, residential, recreational and mixed-use developments.
Jonathan's firm has helped inform the design of over 80 Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building projects and is currently
involved in more than 200 LEED projects pursuing certification, both locally
and internationally. The firm has also provided Commissioning Services on
more than 500 million square feet of buildings worldwide. In addition to his
practitioner role, Jonathan also serves as a LEED educator, formally training
over 100 people looking to obtain their LEED Green Associate and specialty
Jonathan was also the 1st person in South Florida to have achieved the LEED
for Neighborhood Development specialty accreditation. His background in
planning, coupled with his experience in green building design and
construction, helps project teams navigate through the complex LEED
certification process while staying on time and on budget.
Jonathan is currently Chair of the US Green Building Council's
Florida-Caribbean Region and Immediate Past Chair of the USGBC's Palm Beach
Branch. Jonathan also serves as Immediate Past Chair of the Sustainability
Advisory Committee for the City of West Palm Beach, and is a Director of the
South Florida Fair, an Advisor on the City of Miami's Park and Recreation
Advisory Board, and is Past President of the Poinciana Park Neighborhood
