Liana Berberidou-Kallivoka, PhD, PE, LEED Fellow, is the manager of the commercial division at Austin Energy Green Building, an internationally recognized program focused on promoting sustainable development through education, technical training of building professionals, consulting and marketing. As a nationally known expert in sustainability, Liana collaborates with developers, architects, engineers, builders, building owners, utilities, and the local government on a spectrum of influential initiatives including the 700-acre Mueller Redevelopment Project and the Seaholm EcoDistrict. She has earned recognition for her contributions to the development and implementation of initiatives and policies that support City of Austin environmental goals, and for her efforts toward the transformation of the building industry in Central Texas.

Liana has been extensively involved in the development of the LEED rating systems over more than ten years, serving as Subject Matter Expert for USGBC and GBCI, and supporting the creation of reference guides, LEED workshops, and exams. At the national level, Liana has served on the USGBC LEED for Commercial Interiors Core Committee (2004 to 2007), LEED for Retail Core Committee (2004 to 2010), and LEED Market Advisory Core Committee (2008 to 2013). At the local level, Liana has helped to engage and educate building professionals and officials, taking on leadership positions on the USGBC Central Texas – Balcones Chapter, as Chair for the Education Committee (2009 to 2011), and on the Chapter’s Board of Directors (2012 to 2014).

Liana has lectured nationally, and has been a presenter on several conferences including The American Concrete Institute, Structures Congress, and The Congress for the New Urbanism. As a USGBC Faculty since 2006, she has trained and inspired more than 3,000 building professionals worldwide.

Beyond USGBC and GBCI, Liana has been active in multiple organizations, including the Texas Solar Energy Society (TxSES), AIA Committee on the Environment, Leadership Austin, The Pecan Street Project, and The CleanTech Open.

Dr. Kallivoka is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, and a Registered Architect in the European Union; holds a PhD and MS in Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University and a Diploma (B.Arch./BS) in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Liana is a Leadership Austin BCE 2013 alumna.

Liana was named a LEED Fellow by USGBC/GBCI in recognition of her career-long achievements and contributions to the green building movement.
