Marcus B. Sheffer is an energy/environmental consultant with almost 30 years of green building experience. His company, Energy Opportunities, Inc. (EO) provides technical consulting services on projects relating to energy management, efficiency and conservation; renewable energy systems, and the environmental impacts of human enterprises. EO also operates the York County Community Foundation Energy Program providing technical and financial assistance to local nonprofit organizations. Marcus is also a partner in 7group, a multi-disciplinary team of professionals focused on integrative design and regenerative development. He is an accredited LEED Project Reviewer since 2003 and a USGBC Faculty member since 2002.

USGBC Faculty are the official instructors of USGBC's instructor-led workshops working with USGBC's education delivery partners. As USGBC Faculty, Marcus is authorized to teach the following instructor-led workshops:

  • LEED 101: Green Building Basics and LEED
  • LEED 201: Core Concepts and Strategies
  • BDC 251: Understanding the Building Design and Construction LEED Rating Systems
  • BDC 301: Implementing the Building Design and Construction LEED Rating Systems

Volunteer activities have included leadership positions with the USGBC (current member of the LEED Market Advisory Committee, previously served on the LEED Steering Committee, LEED Technical Committee and as Chair of the Energy & Atmosphere Technical Advisory Group) and the Green Building Association of Central PA (Founding Board Chair). Prior to forming Energy Opportunities in 1993, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Energy Office. Sheffer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies in 1981 and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration in 1986, both from Shippensburg University. He lives with his wife of 28 years on a small farm in Pennsylvania raising sheep, hay and daughters.
