Mark Palmer, LEED Fellow, is Senior Green Building Coordinator in the
City of San Francisco’s Department of Environment and chairs the Municipal
Green Building Task Force. He develops policies and building codes to improve
the environmental performance of city buildings, directs a green building
training program for city design professionals, provides technical assistance
and oversees LEED certification for more than 60 municipal projects
throughout design and construction, including 2 hospitals, 3 museums, 10
libraries, 5 recreation centers and an airport terminal. Through his
educational efforts there are now 124 LEED Accredited Professionals on staff
in eleven city departments. He is a guest instructor and regular conference
presenter on municipal green building implementation. He is a member of the
US Green Building Council Northern California Chapter, and is the past chair
of the national USGBC Government Committee. He has two engineering degrees
and extensive post-graduate training in integrated building design, renewable
energy and construction management. Mark lives in San Francisco and walks to
work.
