Associate Planner, Springfield Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission
My passion for designing built environment for spatial development of cities, encouraged me to further my knowledge of architecture to urban design and urban development planning. This broadened my understanding of linkages and interfaces at larger systems of development. Architecture, urban design and planning being an interconnected structure of socio-economic and political dimensions, I was able to achieve an holistic understanding of development interventions at micro as well as macro scales. I am also fortunate to explore various places across globe as part of academia and professional experience. The Asia Link studio in Karachi (Pakistan), working for GHD consultants in Doha (Qatar), participating in Global Studio and UN-HABITAT World Urban Forum III in Vancouver (Canada) and study at UCL, London (UK) have exposed me to various urban issues across many countries at an international platform. I am also awarded with full Commonwealth Scholarship for study at UCL and scholarship for Global Studio at Vancouver. As a designer, I wish to contribute towards making our cities ‘socially just’ with a strong emphasis for gender equality and women empowerment in the overall development.
I presently work as an Associate Planner (Urban Design and Transportation Planning) with Springfield Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission (MPO), Springfield, IL. My main responsibility involves urban design in planning, from designing streetscape to large scale TOD which requires working across different silos of planning. I perform variety of tasks from research, analysis, programming, preparation of design drawings, reports and participation in public processes and presentations. My design approach is greatly inspired by Place-making theory. Currently, I am looking at addressing sustainability in urban design and transportation planning. Some of my recent works have started to incorporate green concepts of LEED ND and INVEST by FHWA into transportation and urban design projects.
