Nellie moved from California to Ireland in 2011 and joined the Board of the Living Building Institute - Ireland Chapter. She is also on the Steering Committee for the Tipperary Green Business Network and is actively involved with the Irish Green Building Council. She is the only LEED Fellow based in Ireland. In 2012, Nellie launched her green building consulting practice in Ireland and is already involved in several projects in Ireland pursuing LEED.
Prior to her move to Ireland, Nellie spent 14 years at Gensler. As a Director of Sustainable Design, Nellie provided sustainable design and LEED oversight on a wide variety of projects, from MGM MIRAGE's CityCenter in Las Vegas and Korean Air's Hyatt hotel in Seoul to Santa Monica College and San Jose Airport, both in California. In addition to her project work, Nellie was pivotal in strengthening the firm's base of knowledge in sustainability, from the way they approached the design of their own offices to the way they made the business case to clients. One of her final efforts at Gensler was ensuring that the new LA office achieved LEED CI Platinum certification.
She has spoken widely on the topic of sustainable design at events including the AIA National Convention, HD Expo and NeoCon.
Nellie is a founding member of the USGBC-LA Chapter and an Emeritus Board
Member. She also co-founded the A+D Sustainable Design Leaders Summit with
Meredith Elbaum of Sasaki Associates. She was the first LEED Accredited
Professional and first LEED Fellow at Gensler, a firm that now has over 1,000 LEED APs. Nellie's recognition includes Interiors & Sources 25 Environmental Champions for 2004,
Real Estate Southern CA's and Building, Design and Construction's 40 under 40
lists and one of CA Real Estate Journal's 16 Green Leaders for 2009.
She is an alum of Rice University School of Architecture.
