Rafael holds a B.B.A. degree in Finance from the University of Houston, two
M.Sc. degrees from Philadelphia University in Construction Management and Sustainable Design, is a LEED AP O+M, a Certified Facilities Manager (IFMA) and a Certified Educational Facilities Professional (APPA).
Rafael has over 10 years of experience in commercial and residential
construction and over 6 years’ experience in facilities management. Before
going to Wharton, Rafael worked for Temple University’s Office of
University Housing & Residential Life, Maintenance Operations Department,
where he was responsible for managing maintenance operations and capital
improvement projects for 10 residence halls. While at Temple, Rafael
coordinated the installation of the first four green roofs on Temple's main
campus, is credited with installing the first water bottle filling station on
campus, and implemented the first comprehensive organic waste recycling
program for Temple University’s main cafeteria. Rafael served in the United
States Coast Guard as an Operations Specialist performing various duties such
as search & rescue, and, was stationed in Petaluma CA, Atlantic City, N.J.,
and Philadelphia P.A.
Rafael lives in West Philadelphia with his wife Alla de Luna and two
children. In addition to his education and work interests, Rafael owns a
successful Mexican themed restaurant with his family, also located in West
Philadelphia, next to the University of the Sciences campus.
