I am not a trained educator, but a passionate voice for a sustainable culture
within the construction industry.
I have been working in construction in one form or other since 1969, and
being a hippie from the sixties, I was always looking for ways to soften our
impact on the environment while still being excited about building buildings.
When I discovered LEED and the USGBC in 2001, I was immediately on board and
have gotten more and more involved since then.
Currently, I am a member of the Atlanta Branch of the Georgia USGBC Chapter and
head up our Sustainability efforts in the East Region for JE Dunn
Construction. This has afforded me the opportunity to be involved in numerous
LEED projects and to gain a wealth of experience in the practical aspects of
getting and keeping a LEED project in budget while maintaining the highest
levels of LEED certification possible. It is not uncommon for us to achieve a
higher level of certification for a project than what was originally
targeted, while still keeping to the original budget.
I believe that preconstruction is where this happens!
