Rick Alfandre, AIA, LEED AP BD+C is a prolific architect who, over the past
22 years, has built more than 200 projects ranging from high performance
residences, churches, retail spaces, and multi-million dollar hotels and
resorts. As the founder and CEO of Alfandre Architecture, he is an expert in
the design of energy-efficient, site and climate responsive buildings that
are durable, with an eye towards the whole life costs. With his construction
company, EcoBuilders Inc., Rick has continued to use his expertise to design
and build state of the art buildings. Mr. Alfandre is devoted to creating
spaces and places of lasting beauty, working closely with clients to plan for
efficient, resilient and cost-effective projects.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the
State University of New York at New Paltz in 1980, Rick worked as a carpenter
and general contractor in residential and light commercial construction. In
1983, he enrolled in the School of Architecture at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University. Rick focused on minimizing the use of
construction materials with the potential for toxicity during and after
installation. Between 1987 and 1991, Rick worked with several area architects
as a Senior Designer and Project Architect, overseeing all phases of project
development. In 1991, Rick Alfandre received his license to practice
architecture in the State of New York. He is also licensed in Connecticut and
New Jersey.
A leader in the green building movement in upstate New York, Mr. Alfandre was
recently elected vice chair of the Upstate New York Chapter of the United
States Green Buildings Council, and is also a founding member on the steering
committee for the Hudson Valley Branch. He launched EcoBuilders Inc. in 2009
to provide full design/build services to his clients. Rick is National
Council of Architectural Registrations Boards (NCARB) certified, and a member
of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Other affiliations include:
the United States Green Buildings Council (USGBC), Northeast Sustainable
Energy Association (NESEA), New York Solar Energy Industries Association
(NYSEIA), New York Solar Energy Society (NYSES), Sustainable Hudson Valley
(SHV) and The Solar Energy Consortium (TSEC).
