Sara O'Mara currently serves as Director of LEED and Environmental Services for Choate Construction Company. She has 19 years of construction experience and is responsible for guiding sustainable projects from preconstruction through project closeout including the design and implementation of the quality control process for all LEED projects. Sara has been a LEED Accredited Professional since 2003 and has been directly and indirectly involved in 76 LEED registered/certified projects totaling more than 7.5 M SF of LEED space. Sara’s LEED project experience extends across the country and within Asia. For the past ten years, Sara has been an active USGBC volunteer at the chapter, regional and national level. Sara is founding member of two USGBC Chapters and a former Chair of the Board of Directors for USGBC Charlotte Region Chapter.
Within the USGBC, her comprehensive knowledge of the LEED Rating Systems has allowed her the opportunity to serve as a consultant to USGBC for the technical review of LEED online (v3) submittal documents. Sara has also assisted in the development of the LEED v2009 Rating System and participated in the Social Equity Working Group as it relates to the creation of LEED v4 Rating System with USGBC. In 2008, Sara was recognized as one of five Green Advocates of the year at the Charlotte Business Journal “Green Awards.” In 2012, she was one of the top 25 Women In Business by the Charlotte Business Journal’s due to her advocacy for sustainable ideas and her leadership in the green building movement. In April of 2013 Sara became a member of the LEED Implementation Advisory Committee (IAC). This committee counsels the LEED Steering Committee and USGBC staff on the scope, content and rigor of technical resources and tools supporting LEED programs.
