Steve Bushnell is the Principal at Stephen Bushnell + Associates, a recently launched consulting firm focused on the enterprise risk management aspects of green buildings, sustainability, resilience and climate risk. Prior to starting this firm, Steve was a Senior Director at Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in Novato California, responsible for development of innovative new products, services and information for commercial customers. He joined Fireman's Fund in 2004, bringing more than 30 years of insurance industry experience having held underwriting, marketing and management positions with Aetna Casualty, MSI and St Paul Companies. In 2006 he developed the first ever Green Building Insurance Coverage, recognizing the reduced risk of LEED Certified buildings with a rate discount and providing for green upgrades for “traditional” buildings. Steve has spoken on the economic and social risks of climate change and the unique risks of green buildings and sustainable business practices at several regional and national conferences including Greenbuild, Ceres, TFM, World Wildlife Fund Climate Savers Summit and BOMA. He serves on the Steering Committee of the California Sustainability Alliance, the Advisory Board of the Green California Summit, the UL Environmental Advisory Council and the Allianz Climate Change Center of Competency. Re served for two years on the Board of the USGBC Redwood Empire Chapter. Working with Allianz (the Fireman’s Fund Parent), Steve has consulted with Allianz insurance entities in France, Germany, UK and Russia to assist in the development of green insurance programs in their markets. A Waukegan, Illinois native, Steve graduated from Northern Illinois University and Sonoma State University’s Green Technology program. He is presently enrolled in Green MBA studies. Steve currently resides in American Canyon (Napa County), California.
