Ms. Teresa Coady is the President and Founding Partner of B+H Bunting Coady Architects, one of Canada’s leading sustainable architectural design practices. Teresa is a registered architect in both Canada and the United States. Recognized as an innovator in sustainable and energy efficient design, Ms. Coady is responsible for pioneering the Integrated Design Process (IDP), as presented at the Globe 1998 Conference, which successfully involves the client in all aspects of design and construction. Her vision, ‘We create Living Breathing Buildings’™, is behind the firm’s development of such landmark projects as the award-winning UBC Life Sciences Centre, the NRC Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation, the Vancouver Port Authority Head Office, and HSBC Discovery Green. Teresa has worked to develop the City of Vancouver Action Plan and City Building Standards. Coady is the only architect to serve on the British Columbia Provincial Government’s Climate Action Team (CAT).Under Ms. Coady’s leadership, B+H Bunting Coady Architects has won over 50 awards for design quality and building performance, including the BOMA Earth Award on four separate occasions. By 2007, the firm had more square footage of LEED®-NC Gold certified institutional and commercial projects than any other firm in North America.
A Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and past Vice-President of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia, Ms. Coady is also a past board member of Cascadia (US Green Building Council) and CaGBC (Canadian Green Building Council). She has also acted as an advisor to the British Columbia Energy Code and the National Energy Code. Teresa is an active board member with the United Nations UNEP-SBCI and was recently elected to the SBCI Advisory Board at the 2012 UNEP-SBCO Annual General Meeting held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She also sits on the board with the International Initiative Sustainable Building Expo (iiSBE). Ms. Coady was named as a winner of the RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Awards (CWEA) in 2008. Ms. Coady is the only architect to receive this honour. She was also included in the 10th Annual Profit W100 list of Canada’s Top Women Entrepreneurs. In 1999, Coady was awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award; an award that honours women whose outstanding achievements contribute to the well-being and future of the community. Teresa has over 50 publications, numerous television and video appearances, and is actively involved as a teacher and lecturer.
