As corporate sustainability leader of the McCormack Baron Salazar (MBS) Companies, Bill Carson has helped MBS become one of the top developers and managers of green, economically integrated, urban communities. Bill was recently named President of Sunwheel Energy + Sustainability, an MBS Affiliate providing renewable energy and sustainability services to affordable housing developer/owner, green-oriented businesses, and government and nonprofit organizations.
Mr. Carson has been directly involved in the development and certification of 2,100 green homes, a LEED Platinum School, two LEED Neighborhood Developments, eight Enterprise Green Communities, and more than one-thousand Energy Star Certified homes. During his tenure, MBS has been awarded $35 million in HUD CFRC Green Communities Grants, been named a “Hero of the Planet” by the St. Louis Business Journal and received top-honors in the St. Louis Green Business Challenge two years running. Its Legends Park West community in Memphis, TN was recently recognized by the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition as one of the most outstanding Green properties in the US in its 19th Annual Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards.
Mr. Carson is a USGBC LEED-Accredited Professional (LEED-AP BD+C) and Cornell Engineering grad and holds master’s degrees in Engineering & Policy and Engineering Management from Washington University. He is an active civic participant in the City of St. Louis and is passionate about using integrated sustainability strategies to reduce environmental impact, improve resident well-being and advance economic outcomes in distressed, urban communities.
