William Yen-Shi Chen, P.E. is a mechanical engineering graduate of the University of California, San Diego and a licensed professional engineer for both California and Hawaii. He works as the COO and VP of Engineering of Adroit Energy Inc.; one of the largest solar thermal integrators in North America. William has been designing solar thermal hydronic systems and other high-efficiency heating systems since 2008. He is an expert at solar thermal system engineering, energy optimization, energy modeling, and financial feasibility analysis. He has provided system designs for many award winning LEED-platinum residential, multi-family commercial, industrial, and government buildings throughout California. Previous projects include designs for the University of California campuses, San Diego Mesa College Campus, San Diego Miramar College Campus, MCAS Miramar, and Naval Base Coronado.
William envisions creating a sustainable future through well-designed, but easily replicable, net-zero-energy buildings. In his spare-time you can find him traveling with family, mountain biking through the wilderness, or exploring new cuisines.
