William Dowie, has been an environmental management consultant / sustainability professional since 1993. William completed his BA in Applied Economics / Applied Mathematics at the University of Manitoba, and continues to pursue graduate level work within the Faculties of Engineering, Architecture, and Environment. He holds an Applied Management Certificate for non-profit organizations, a Masters Certificate in Project Management, and is a LEED Accredited Professional specializing in Operations and Maintenance. As a self-employed entrepreneur, William is a member of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. His work has recently concentrated on working with CN and Johnson Controls towards HVAC modernization of Transcona Car Shops and its 100+ year old buildings.
William is a Certified Master Gardener, and also holds a Certificate in Permaculture Design. Wm consistently practices ecological design principles. A self-declared naturalist, his family property is a demonstration landscape: it has five certifications in naturalization and biodiversity, and has been featured on local garden tours and on CBC radio. Wm has been a contributing writer to the Winnipeg Free Press gardening column and The Prairie Garden. He joined the University of Manitoba in the Fall of 2013 as an Instructor in Arboriculture.
His pro bono volunteer work leads him to be an active apolitical citizen member of the Mayor's Environmental Advisory Committee, and the Past-Chair for the City of Winnipeg Museums Board. He is a Board Member with Gardens Manitoba, and is the Chair and President of the Green Action Centre.
