Wolfgang Werner, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, USGBC Faculty, is an architect and building sustainability expert with extensive consulting and education experience, who is motivated by the urgency for our generation to respond to the defining challenge of our time: climate change. He is a principal at Urban Fabrick, Inc., a sustainability consulting and communications company, and heads up the newly established New York City branch of the San Francisco based firm.

Wolfgang has more than 18 years of experience in building sustainability, architectural design, construction administration, and building investigation, including general building sustainability concepts, strategies, and technologies, building codes, policy, standards, regulations, and life cycle assessment. He is a USGBC Faculty member and as a practice leader on the application and use of the LEED rating systems and other green building certification systems has taught LEED curriculum courses to diverse audiences.
Prior to joining Urban Fabrick, Wolfgang worked for almost 15 years at Thornton Tomasetti, most recently as Vice President in the firm’s Building Sustainability practice. There he was instrumental in launching that practice and various corporate sustainability initiatives, which included joining the AIA 2030 Commitment as the first structural engineering firm to do so.

Wolfgang is a licensed architect in the State of New York and a member of the American Institute of Architects and the New York Urban Green Council. He is an active part of New York City’s green building community and currently serves on the Urban Green Council’s Monthly Programs Committee. He is also a Research Fellow at the New York City based non-profit Building Energy Exchange. He speaks and writes regularly on sustainability topics including in recent years presenting at the Greenbuild Expo and Green Buildings NY. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree in architecture from the Technische Universität, Berlin, Germany and a master’s degree in architecture from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, and is a LEED Accredited Professional since 2004.

Wolfgang is a long-time resident of Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood and enjoys the rich cultural and culinary offerings of the metropolis. He is also an accomplished hobby photographer and hopes to win the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest one day before rising sea levels will render such an achievement utterly meaningless.
