Wolfgang Werner is a Buildings Sustainability Consultant with extensive
consulting and education experience who is motivated by the realization that
out industry is called upon to respond to the defining challenge of our time:
climate change.

He has more than 18 years of experience in sustainable design concepts,
architectural design, construction administration, and building
investigation. Areas of expertise include: General building sustainability
concepts, strategies, and technologies across all disciplines; LEED rating
systems and other green building certification systems; building codes,
standards, regulations (particularly in New York City); embodied energy and
carbon; benchmarking; incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy;
vegetated roofs, advanced energy retrofits and financing mechanisms,
high-performance building envelopes. In addition, he is experienced in
forensic building investigations and has testified in related depositions.

While working at Thornton Tomasetti, Wolfgang was instrumental in launching
the firm’s building sustainability practice as well as its corporate
sustainability initiatives, such as establishing a LEED accreditation support
structure, implementing sustainable office operations, coordinating Thornton
Tomasetti’s work to adopt the AIA 2030 Commitment and developing design
tools aimed at reducing the carbon impacts of the firm’s engineering
portfolio.

Wolfgang is a licensed architect in New York, and a member of the American
Institute of Architects and the New York Urban Green Council. He is also a
regular speaker at various conferences that in recent years included the
Greenbuild and NY Green Buildings. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree in
architecture from the Technische Universität, Berlin, Germany and a
master’s degree in architecture from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York.
