LEED BD+C: Healthcare v3 - LEED 2009
JUNTENDO UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
LEED Gold 2016
Juntendo Hospital Building B is the first LEED healthcare facility in Japan and the first to earn LEED for Healthcare Gold certification.
CEO Hideoki Ogawa of Juntendo University and President Kazuyuki Inoue of Shimizu Corporation say that Juntendo Hospital Building B in Hongo, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo (completed in April 2016) is one of the world’s leading eco-hospitals. The LEED for Healthcare Gold certification recognizes its stellar sustainability.
Building B was evaluated for its improvements in energy conservation and comfort, achieved through the use of Shimizu’s unique radiant air conditioning system, and its focus on business continuity planning (BCP) to ensure that various facilities can continue operating in the event of an earthquake. Other actors include water conservation features (water used for facilities and cleaning water for medical devices); greening of the building site, including rooftop gardens; use of recycled building materials; and interior environmental management during construction. Building B also won high marks for the coherence of its design, structures, facilities, and construction, in no small part due to Shimizu’s dual role as contractor for both design and construction.
Juntendo University will contribute to health care development by providing world class services, training medical professionals, and promoting advanced medical research by utilizing the environmental advantages of Building B as a health care facility meeting global standards. Beyond this, Shimizu Corporation is seeking to win additional orders by proposing effective and efficient LEED certification in a way that leverages its strengths as an integrated contractor for both design and construction.
