LEED Gold 2011

Applying LEED to the project has made the facility more valuable and more appealing for tenants.

National Wallcovering and colour & design are as committed to beautiful outdoors as they are to beautiful indoors. Their dedication to sustainable design and environmentally responsible practices within the wallcovering industry is evident, first and foremost, by their support of green building initiatives. Retrofitting their original building in North Little Rock, National Wallcovering (NW) and colour & design (CDI) achieved LEED for Existing Buildings Gold level certification in 2011.

Built in 2003, National Wallcovering’s two story facility is a 76,000 sq. ft. award-winning concrete tilt wall structure, comprised of approximately 30% office space and 70% warehouse space for over 40 employees. The building is owned by Bix Enterprises and leases tenant space to National Wallcovering, colour & design, and Emser Tile. Located on Maumelle Blvd. in North Little Rock, NW/CDI is surrounded by a mixture of retail strip centers and commercial interior product companies. There are many construction suppliers in the area.

National Wallcovering and colour & design (NW/CDI) promote commercial interior design products that help buildings obtain LEED certification by contributing to LEED points in the areas of low VOC emissions, sustainability, recycled content and regionally produced/warehoused products. With this commitment to green design, NW/CDI wanted their facility to reflect their leadership in sustainability in the industry and educate the public about the environmental benefits of PVC wallcoverings.

NW/CDI has seen stunning results from their LEED-inspired upgrades. NW/CDI achieved a 99.87% reduction in potable water for irrigation by planting native and adapted vegetation. In addition, 100% of the facility’s total durable goods waste was diverted from the landfill during the five-month performance period. Over 100% of the building’s annual energy usage is provided with green-e certified off-site renewable energy.

Moreover, the project helped NW and CDI become leaders in sustainability in the interior design industry. Integrating sustainability into their operations, NW transports environmentally friendly wallcovering products from a LEED-certified warehouse. They have built sustainability in to their entire work environment, from the zeroscaping outside the building to the low VOC emitting materials inside. Through their commitment to sustainability, NW and CDI have become true leaders in their industry.
