The overall building is high-performance with energy efficient equipment and strategies used throughout, demonstrating a 32% overall energy savings above ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004.

The National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (NRUCFC) New Headquarters project is 119,851 sf and located on the NRUCFC Campus within Dulles Town Center in Loudoun County, Virginia. The organization is a member-owned, nonprofit cooperative whose mission is to bridge the financial needs of the rural electric network with the expectations of the global capital markets. NRUCFC's campus is being developed as an office park, with the NRUCFC Headquarters as its first building.

The building provides bike storage and showers to encourage employees to ride to work. Preferred parking spaces have also been provided for low-emitting fuel efficient vehicles and carpool vehicles. Bioretention basins, storm filters, and an enhanced detention facility control stormwater quality.

Treated wastewater is used to irrigate the drought tolerant landscape plantings. In addition, this treated wastewater is used for flushing toilets and urinals, cooling tower makeup, and as a back-up water source for the fire sprinkler system. All of the indoor plumbing fixtures are also water-efficient.

The overall building is high-performance with energy efficient equipment and strategies used throughout, demonstrating a 32% overall energy savings above ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004. The lighting system has occupancy sensors and daylight dimming controls. Ice storage is used within the building systems and a ground loop geothermal system serves the entire atrium, stairwells, and fitness center.

To ensure a high level of indoor air quality, low emitting materials were used in the construction of the building. Access to thermostats in occupied spaces is also provided to ensure individual thermal comfort.

The NRUCFC New Headquarters earned LEED-NC Gold-level certification in August 2013. The following year, the building's ENERGY STAR certification began and is currently underway.
