LEED BD+C: New Construction v3 - LEED 2009
Soorty Textiles BD Limited
LEED Gold 2015
The Soorty industrial manufacturing facility in Bangladesh is home to the garment making and laundering operations for Soorty Textiles.
The project team designed the facility with the comfort of its employees in mind. The Soorty facility accommodates approximately 6,000 employees. Thermal comfort systems that are controlled by individuals were incorporated into the design, allowing occupants to control the temperature in various work zones and in individual office spaces.
Given the temperature challenges of the area, the building was designed to minimize passive heat gain. Numerous landscaping features were introduced into the design to overcome the tropical heat conditions of the country and to enhance its storm water drainage system facility.
To achieve higher energy efficiency compared to a similar facility, it was important to optimize energy use without compromising the internal thermal comfort conditions and indoor air quality that are critical to effective operations. Therefore, systems were selected to ensure that employees experience no thermal discomfort that could compromise the quality of their product.
The facility uses a Building Management System (BMS) to manage ventilation, installed energy efficient HVAC equipment that is free of CFC-based refrigerants.
