This Industry Materials Brief details LEED's use of forest products within the green building rating system. It compares the use of forest products in LEED 2009 as well as LEED V4. Wood is an important part of green building. Wood is a sustainable and renewable building material that has a low impact on the environment. The latest version of LEED recognizes the best building materials – those having the lowest environmental impact while meeting the needs of building projects. Achieving LEED certification, at any level, is possible regardless of what materials are chosen, but reaching the highest level is easier when using sustainable materials, like forest products.
