The USGBC volunteer awards, which were given out at USGBC’s annual mid-year meeting, Convergence, recognize individuals for their incredible work and leadership over the course of the year. In 2015, six awards were given out to a total of nine individuals and groups whose dedication and commitment to assisting in USGBC's mission of creating a more sustainable built environment is demonstrated by their passion and hard work through volunteerism.

For this installment, we highlight Lois Vitt Sale, Chief Sustainability Officer for Wight & Company and winner of this years Legendary Leader Award. Lois has been Co-Chair of not one, but two Greenbuild Host Committees and has also acted as Chair of her local USGBC chapter in the state of Illinoise. She has served as a member of the Illinois Climate Change Advisory Council and recently co-chaired the Living Architecture Performance Tool—a new product being designed to measure the performance and quality of living architecture systems. She is a LEED Fellow with a passion for the application of green technologies and sustainable planning to the public and private sectors.
