Gain CE credits with these USGBC Upstate New York energy code workshops.

In partnership with Urban Green Council, NYSERDA, and the International Code Council, USGBC New York Upstate is hosting a round of "Conquering the Energy Code" workshops.

This course is designed to prepare architects and engineers to comply with the many new requirements in the 2015 NYS Energy Conservation Construction Code and to design more energy-efficient buildings in the process. In an era of more stringent code enforcement, the course provides critical knowledge about significant changes, new provisions and best practices to avoid objections and stalled projects.

As instructor Jim D'Aloisio says, "Every engineer who works on buildings should have at least a basic working knowledge of the Energy Code. Many assume that it’s handled by 'others,' but it involves all of us: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and more."

Workshop topics

This workshop touches on all aspects of the Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State. It includes

  • A clear description of the compliance path options and how to comply with each option.
  • Descriptions of all mandatory items that must be followed, regardless of compliance path.
  • Identification of all significant changes from the previous code requirements.
  • A review of all additional energy package options, one of which must be selected if any of the prescriptive compliance paths is followed.
  • Emphasis on the importance and benefits of design integration.
  • State-of-the-art information on building envelope energy loss calculations.
  • Clarification of code requirements for additions and other work on existing buildings.

You can also receive the following continuing education credits:

  • GBCI: Approved for 7.0 CE hours
  • AIA: Approved for 7.0 HSW/LU hours
