In August, Reverend Sally Bingham from Interfaith Power and Light (IPL) called on the USGBC Community to support the greening of congregations in her article, “Partnering for Faithful Stewardship.” In conjunction with USGBC’s partnerships with IPL and other faith-based partners like GreenFaith, National Religious Partnership on the Environment, Conference of Catholic Facility Managers and Energy Star for Congregations, we’ve see an awesome outpouring of interest in our faith-based campaign.

Through this campaign, we aim to connect faith-based organizations to resources, expertise and initiatives within USGBC’s community as a practical response to the ideals of stewardship, care for creation and realization of human potential. We know the value that healthy, efficient buildings can bring to people and the environment; so let’s help faith organizations actualize these benefits in the more than 400,000 facilities they own and operate in the U.S. alone!

Next month, at Greenbuild in Philadelphia, faith leaders and green building professionals from across the country will convene to explore opportunities for advancing the health & efficiency of faith-based facilities and congregations. Holley Henderson, a LEED Fellow from Atlanta, will share lessons learned from LEED certified faith-based projects. Along with JocCole (JC) Burton, Holley will facilitate a dynamic dialog on how green professionals can give back in support of faith communities.

USGBC is blessed with a giant community of passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable supporters - we want YOU to be part of this story! Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Register for the Faith-based Green Professional Peer Group at Greenbuild on Thursday Nov. 21 from 9:00-11:00 AM.
  • Connect with your USGBC Chapter to find out how they’re engaged with the campaign locally.
  • Sign up as an Outreach & Engagement Volunteer. We’ll connect you into the campaign in the best way that fits your interests. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved!
