November 15 - Next week, approximately 30,000 people from around the world will gather in Philadelphia for the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, which features three days of extensive educational programming, workshops and showcases of the latest green products and services. Presented by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Greenbuild is the world's largest conference and expo dedicated to green building, bringing together leaders in business, environment and politics.
The Eagles will help kick off this year’s conference prior to Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins when Lincoln Financial Field is presented with LEED Silver certification from USGBC’s President Rick Fedrizzi.
“As proud as we are of this accomplishment, we are also thankful for our partners who have helped us reduce our environmental impact,” said Eagles President Don Smolenski. “Earning LEED certification was a true team effort that required a great deal of commitment from our organization at all levels. But what started with a blue recycling bin under each employee’s desk in 2003 has evolved into a comprehensive Go Green program that would not be possible without the innovation of our partners and participation of our fans.”
“It is an honor to be recognized by the USGBC for our sustainability efforts at Lincoln Financial Field,” said Christina Weiss Lurie, President of Eagles Youth Partnership and Social Responsibility. “We have always believed the path to sustainability is a journey, not a destination. So we are grateful for this tremendous award, and we will continue to search for ways to be a leader in the community and make our organization more environmentally responsible.”
USGBC’s LEED green building certification system is the foremost program for the design, construction, maintenance and operations of green buildings. Every day, more than 1.5 million square feet of space is certified using LEED.  Greenbuild 2013 marks the launch of the newest version of USGBC’s LEED green building rating system, LEED v4. LEED v4 builds on the fundamentals of earlier versions of LEED and helps prepare LEED projects to perform at a higher level. LEED v4 also provides a suite of new time-saving support tools designed to help streamline the certification process.

“We can’t think of a better way to kick-off Greenbuild, the world’s largest green building conference in the world, than with the LEED Silver certification of Lincoln Financial Field, one of the first professional football stadiums in the country to take this important step,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, USGBC. “We commend Philadelphia’s commitment to sustainability and the leadership example the Eagles are setting for other sports franchises.”
