I have always believed that life is cyclical, and today I find myself reflecting on where we started this year, launching our Women in Green "Sheroes Stand Up" campaign.

It has been a joy to serve with our community in propelling this Women in Green leadership platform forward. Since 2012, we have celebrated and connected female leaders in sustainability who are influencers at the top of their field, fueled ambitious young women who are catalysts of change and impacted thousands of lives annually. This platform empowers women to enhance, strengthen and lead green industries across all sectors, on a global level.

Women in Green was launched to create change based on a three-pronged approach:

Foster leadership through transformation and authentic transparency
Move from mentorship to sponsorship by creating opportunities through our own influence and defining our own stakeholder table
Accelerate accountability and action, giving the next generation permission to fail fast

I am proud to announce our Women in Green 2020 regional sheroes of the year. Selected from the many sheroes nominated throughout the year, these female leaders represent regions and communities from across the U.S. In a time where authentic and transparent leadership matters most, their work and accomplishments speak volumes.

Amplifying the work and voice of USGBC’s women leaders and their steadfast commitment is a critical component of advancing a sustainable, healthy, resilient and equitable future for all.

The continued pathway of hope and reconciliation toward a more equitable future begins when individuals stand up and lead in the spirit of loving others as ourselves. We look to a new generation of women in green building. The future is bright—let’s hold ourselves accountable for realizing its full potential.
