See what green building goals the Virginia community has for 2018.

USGBC is stronger than ever in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As the incoming chair of the USGBC Virginia Market Leadership Advisory Board, I’m proud to help lead a team of hardworking volunteers from across the state. By joining forces with the USGBC Hampton Roads Community, our Greater Virginia membership truly is greater.

As a commissioning engineer in the Southwest region of the state, I see the growing demand for efficient, sustainable building design in my work. The role of the local USGBC Market Leadership Advisory Board is to foster that momentum in collaboration with our tremendous network of members and partners.

We hope to increase our outreach in 2018 to new audiences, including sustainability advocates in higher education, local government, the military, K–12 schools, hospitality, affordable housing and industrial facilities. Along with the rest of the USGBC communities in the south Atlantic region of the U.S., our goal is to bring all buildings and all people into the green building fold.

Here are some of our resolutions for 2018:

  • Continue to provide quality in-person education through our Hampton Roads, Richmond, Charlottesville and Southwest branches. Our monthly education courses help our membership maintain their GBCI continuing education needs and celebrate Virginia’s green building success stories through tours and seminars.
  • Offer opportunities to give back by supporting the next generation of sustainability leaders through our Connect the Dots program, working with K–12 schools to implement green building projects.
  • We’ll work to advocate for positive policies that support LEED and green building at the state and local level to continue the momentum for green building in Virginia.
  • And let us not forget the fun—we’ll connect with our membership to share best practices and learn from one another at local networking events.

To join us in these resolutions, stay in touch by signing up for our newsletter and following us on social media. Visit our website for more information on upcoming events, or become a local member to receive our membership discounts.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to USGBC’s mission in Virginia. I’m excited to see what we will all accomplish together in 2018.
