The American Institute of Architects annual Conference on Architecture (A'19) is right around the corner, taking place June 5–8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I’m excited to attend the show and to connect with many peers and friends within the AIA community. With fantastic speakers and a bustling expo hall, A’19 is sure to be an exceptional experience; let me be your guide to a curated lineup of sustainability sessions and activities.
Sessions day by day
- Wednesday, June 5 is a pre-conference day of tours and workshops. Check out the Vision for a Sustainable Future: Springs Preserve and Solar Decathlon House tour, or take part in Setting the Stage for High-Performance with an Integrated Design Charrette.
- On Thursday, June 6, the expo hall opens and education sessions kick into high gear. A few of my sessions of choice are Many Lenses, One Goal: Integrating Sustainability, Wellness, and Resilience; Architects Are Public Health Workers—A Global Exchange; and Sustainable Streets and Thriving Neighborhoods.
- The event continues on Friday, June 7 with more excellent education and programming, as well as the opening keynote with Reshma Saujani on closing the gender gap in STEAM careers. Don’t miss The Mind-Body Effect and Environmental Design or Biodiversity and Architecture: Sustaining Social Justice, and be sure to review the full list of sessions taking place in the expo hall if you’re looking for some experiential learning.
- The conference wraps up on Saturday, June 8 with a final round of education, tours and a closing keynote featuring writer-director Ryan Coogler. Top picks for the day include Sustainable Transformation: Public-Private Partnership Leads the Way and The Impact of Biophilic Design On Student Success.
