USGBC is dedicated to creating an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous world through more sustainable buildings, communities and cities.
We were present at the UNFCCC Conference of Parties in Paris back in 2015, and we celebrated its historic agreement as a critical step for global climate action. The historic agreement brought nearly all nations together into a mutual framework to protect our shared planet. In the years since, climate scientists have continued to call for greater, and more rapid, reductions in greenhouse gases. Informed by science, we understand that we must drastically reduce carbon emissions starting now, hitting milestones at 2030 and net zero by 2050 to preserve our planet and quality of life.
In this light, we are deeply disappointed by the recent decision to formally initiate the process for the United States to withdraw from the Paris Agreement.
USGBC stands with our members, partners and colleagues around the world in our commitment to the Paris Agreement and what it stands for. We believe the U.S. can—and should—be a leader on climate action. And we are deeply inspired by the businesses, advocates, stakeholders and local governments across the country who are stepping up and answering the call and bringing about lasting, positive change in their communities.
We are still all in. Because we have seen how better buildings, cities and communities lead to better lives. USGBC will continue to work tirelessly to accelerate, incentivize and enable the transition to a low-carbon future and to improve the quality of life for every member of our community and in populations spanning every corner of the planet.
