The government of India’s highly ambitious urban development scheme, the 100 Smart Cities Mission, is officially under way, with excitement building following the January 28 announcement of the first 20 cities selected.

To spread awareness of this groundbreaking initiative, and to help key stakeholders better understand the challenges and opportunities it offers, several conferences and events are being planned throughout the year.

This month, USGBC will share the stage at four of those very timely events. We hope you will be able to join us at one or all of them:

When: February 16–20

Where: India Habitat Center (IHC), New Delhi

With the theme "Cities of the Future," GRIHA 2016 serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, high-level networking and partnership opportunities involving governments, academia, civil society organizations and building professionals from different disciplines.

As the event’s Senior Partner, USGBC will be well represented with on-site participants including Gautami Palanki, Green Building Performance Specialist, and Corey Enck, VP, LEED Technical Development.

GRIHA’s calendar of events also features a WELL Building workshop.

361 Degrees Design Conference: Architecture and the City

When: February 17–18

Where: Nehru Centre, Mumbai

The “361 Degree Conference” explores the evolving role of urban planning and development at a time when climate change has become an imperative. Its focus is on a future in which city planning integrates three basic principles: architecture, urbanism and sustainability.

USGBC is engaged as conference sustainability partner, and our Chief Product Officer, Scot Horst, will be featured as a master speaker, emphasizing the benefits of sustainable infrastructure and LEED in a city’s urban fabric. In addition, Vatsal Bhatt, USGBC Director, Cities and Neighborhood Development, will serve as a session moderator.

Habitat Conclave: The Road Map Toward Sustainable and Smart Cities

When: February 18–21

Where: AES Ground, Drive-In Road, Ahmedabad

The Habitat Conclave broadens the conversation to ensure that smart cities are designed not only to be smart, but also to be sustainable. USGBC will play an active role as the event’s sustainability partner, and global leadership will be very visible. Scot Horst will contribute to the conclave’s opening remarks and Corey Enck, Vatsal Bhatt and Gautami Palanki will chair and participate in working sessions, sharing knowledge and expertise gained from projects they have implemented around the world.

ACREX India 2016

When: February 25–27

Where: BCEC, Mumbai, India

ACREX India is an all-encompassing event. Apart from focusing on HVAC and refrigeration (HVAC & R), it will feature diverse building engineering services that include fire and safety, electrical and plumbing, building automation and the fast-growing cold-chain industry.

The event is produced by the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE), an organization founded in 1981 by a group of eminent HVAC & R professionals. To date, with 40 Indian chapters, ISHRAE has grown its membership to more than 12,000 HVAC & R professionals and 3,000 students.

USGBC’s Gautami Palanki will lead an ACREX session on building performance and the LEED Dynamic Plaque.
