USGBC Virginia is pleased to announce the finalists for our 2019 Leadership Awards. These awards, which recognize excellence in high-performance building design, environmental stewardship and community impact, highlight the green building initiatives and achievements of Virginia projects, businesses and community members.
Winners will be announced at a special Leadership Awards Ceremony and Celebration, which will take place at the Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond on Thursday, May 2, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event will include a networking portion in addition to the awards ceremony, and Angela Navarro, Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the state of Virginia, will deliver the keynote address.
Our project awards recognize and celebrate building owners and project teams for their extra effort to accomplish LEED certification. Awards will be given in multiple categories. To be eligible for most categories, projects must be located in the USGBC Virginia region and have received a LEED certification between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018.
Our finalists are:
- Clark Hall, University of Virginia
- Discovery Elementary School
- Greer Environmental Sciences Center, Virginia Wesleyan University
- Institute for Contemporary Art, Virginia Commonwealth University
- Moseley Architects Headquarters
- Renaissance Academy
- Virginia Military Institute Corps Physical Training Facility
- Walter L. Rice Education Center, Virginia Commonwealth University
Additional awards will also be given to recognize Green Leaders, including Organization of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, which honor an organization and a community volunteer who have gone above and beyond in their support of USGBC and advancing green building in the state of Virginia.
We will also recognize winners and participants in the Connect the Dots Green Schools program, which challenges K–12 schools to develop and implement the most creative, effective, no- or low-cost sustainable practices.
In addition, attendees at our awards event will have the opportunity to vote to decide the winner of the 2019 People’s Choice Award. All projects nominated for an award will be eligible.
We hope you’ll join us on May 2 as we announce our winners and celebrate all our nominees, along with the green building innovators from across the state that have made Virginia a national leader in sustainability.
