Roofs are the exposed to intense solar radiation throughout the day which in-turn increases the cooling load of the building and consequently the energy consumption. Cool roofs work on the principle of reflecting solar radiation, hence minimizing heat transfer to the interior of the building. through the roof. This is a simple and effective strategy to reduce cooling energy consumption. Cool roofs are also known for their benefit towards mitigating urban heat island effect.

This is Part 1 of the course which will cover the fundamental technical ground in understanding how a cool roof works. At the end of this course you will have complete clarity on the building physics and technical terms that is essential to understand how a cool roof exactly works.
