About

The new mass market electric vehicle industry has arrived! The Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt were launched in December, 2010, and today virtually every major auto company has near-term plans to roll-out electric vehicle models. This new industry is driving a paradigm shift in the re-fueling of passenger vehicles, from re-fueling in a few minutes at a gas station to re-fueling in a few hours while vehicles are parked at home, at work, or other frequented destinations such as shopping centers. So now there is a new high-tech amenity needed in the built environment…the electric vehicle charging station.

The goal of this session is to provide a basic understanding of electric vehicle charging station infrastructure requirements for architects, engineers and real estate professionals. The session assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, and is designed to provide a good working understanding of charging system alternatives, and installation considerations for commercial real estate applications (e.g. multifamily, office and retail properties).
