The Center for Sustainable Landscapes primarily serves as office and education space for the Phipps Conservatory located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The building was one of the first to achieve Net-Zero Certification with the International Living Futures Institute (ILFI) and has also achieved Sustainable Sites and LEED Platinum. The presentation will give a brief overview of the Living Building Challenge and this specific project as well as more in-depth information on Energy and Water saving strategies as well as Beauty and Inspiration used on this project and wrap up with Lessons Learned.


  1. Understand what Energy Saving strategies were utilized in order to meet the Net Zero Energy requirement for this project.
  2. Understand what Water Saving and Reuse strategies were utilized on this project in preparation for Net Zero Water requirement.
  3. Understand the Beauty and Inspiration elements used in this project in preparation for the Beauty and Inspiration of the building.
  4. Understand the Lessons Learned from this project. What has worked well and what has not worked as well.
