About

This course will aid the architect in specifying polished concrete to create a beautiful and durable finished project. To meet owner expectations the proper Class, Gloss, and methods must be properly defined in the specification. Emphasis in this course will be given to the terminology necessary for a full and complete specification. Attendees will be able to understand the different types of polished concrete (bonded abrasive, hybrid, or burnished) and identify when and how to specify each type successfully. Attendees will also understand the key importance of initial grinding, how project sequencing affects the final outcome, and discover that polished concrete is sustainable and when specified in the proper environment has a long life cycle, and return on investment.

Objectives

  1. 1. Define the need and method for Polished Concrete (03 30 01) to be incorporated with the general Cast In Place Concrete (03 30 00) specification.
  2. 2. Utilize proper terminology to achieve a safe and specific performance and appearance for the finished polished concrete surface.
  3. 3. Analyze the Class and Gloss choices and how they best fit the intended purpose of the floor. Selection of these will help determine and set the slip coefficient of friction levels to ensure they exceed all standards.
  4. 4. Determine the testing equipment and methods to be used that create measurable results ensuring the floor has met the specification.
