This course's theme is moisture, humidity, dampness and what are the differences between them all? The course focuses on the fundamental concepts of moisture management in buildings, discusses common moisture problems and fixes and attempts to describe dampness as it applies to real world situations.

Objectives

  1. Understand the magnitude and importance of the vapor sources in buildings
  2. Understand the structure and content of Chapter 62 of the 2015 ASHRAE Handbook, Applications volume
  3. Explain how to use practical qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques for describing dampness in buildings as it has clear and consistent epidemiological associations with adverse health effects
  4. Distinguish between the various notions of humidity, moisture and dampness in the built environment context
