Why Build Walkable Streets

LEED v4 ND rating system promotes walkable streets and neighborhoods to improve public health and environmental protection by encouraging pedestrian traffic in urban areas. To achieve this goal, LEED developed a “Walkable Streets” prerequisite and credit to qualify candidate projects for their achievement in this matter

Objectives

  1. Learn the difference between what is and is not considered a Walkable Street and how the LEED V4 ND Plan makes our neighborhoods more walkable.
  2. Learn about different methods of making walkable streets more enjoyable for pedestrians and what challenges some walkways may have.
  3. Learn about the requirements for walkable streets found in the LEED NPD PREREQUISITE, such as a functional entry point into the circulation network or other public space.
  4. Learn about the building height requirements for the LEED-ND Walkable Street Credit.
