It has long been said that the greenest building is one that already exists. This session will explore the inherent resiliency of historic buildings and the tools available to finance historic rehabilitation projects. Using York's Northwest Triangle as a case study, the session will demonstrate how multiple layers of historic rehabilitation projects and funding sources can be leveraged to turn an underutilized blighted area into a resilient urban framework.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand the inherent resiliency of historic buildings
  2. Learn about the financial incentives available for rehabilitating existing buildings
  3. Understand the application process for preservation tax incentives
  4. Learn about the strategies used to reactivate large areas of vacant land within York's Northwest
