Health promoting design is rapidly becoming of interest within the building industry. The LEED v4 BD+C Rating System’s Integrative Process for Health Promotion (IPHP) Pilot credit is a stepwise process involving identifying and prioritizing strategies to meet specific health promoting goals in the context of other design constraints. The IPHP was developed to guide prioritization of design decisions based on project and community specific health needs and targets and thus maximizes the health impact of a client’s investment. By working with public health professionals and leveraging public health information, designers better understand public health concerns.
