Don’t miss this opportunity gain firsthand experience and sustainable design insight from the Design Team of the NOAA Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center that led to LEED Gold Certification and AIA 2017 COTE Top Ten award. Located on a national historic landmark site on Oahu’s Ford Island, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Inouye Regional Center features the adaptive reuse of two World War II-era airplane hangars linked by a new steel and glass building. The hangars inspired beautifully simple design solutions for how the center uses air, water and light. The LEED Gold complex accommodates 800 people in a research and office facility that integrates NOAA’s mission of “science, service and stewardship” with Hawaii’s cultural traditions and ecology. The interior environment, which is based on principles of campus design, creates a central gathering place.

The building tour will highlight the building’s science innovations: water capture and reuse system; innovative energy saving cooling and ventilation systems utilizing downdraft thermal chimneys, displacement ventilation, and passive, buoyancy-driven exhaust ; daylighting system and the role of enhanced commissioning.

The tour will be led by Joe Ferraro, FAIA, LEED AP of Ferraro Choi; Paul Woolford, AIA , IIDA, LEED AP BD+C of HOK; Charles Chaloeicheep, PE, LEED AP BD+C and Kevin Luoma P.E. of WSP USA. Lunch will be provided and enjoyed in the Greentree Café.
