Join USGBC National Capital Region's Montgomery County Committee for a hard hat tour of the United Therapeutics Unisphere in downtown Silver Spring. The primary use of the Unisphere will be managing the development of an unlimited supply of transplantable organs. This innovative project will bring 120,000 SF of new office space, 10,000 SF of retail space, as well as public amenity space for the Silver Spring community.

Through the use of cutting-edge sustainable building technologies - including 1 MW photovalic systems, 52 geothermal wells, high-performance/electrochromic envelop, earth-coupled heating/cooling, natural ventilation, centralized controls, day light harvesting, plug load managment, and thermal pool - the Unisphere is designed to be a Net Zero Site, creating no carbon footprint. The facility needs a minimum of LEED Silver certification but is stiving to exceed and earn a higher rating. You can learn more about the Unisphere's ambitious sustainability plans here.

Led by the United Therapeutic's mechanical engineer and the general contractor's MEP lead, this hard hat tour will take a deep technical dive into the Unisphere's mechanical systems and sustainability features.
