Occupants are paying more attention to the materials that surround them in buildings. Are the cabinets made with FSC wood? Is the gypsum board from China? Is the furniture off-gassing? At the same time, our communities are being more thoughtful about landfill management and hazardous waste such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and fluorescent tubes. Our lives are inextricably connected to the way we create, use, and dispose of materials. We continue to discover how those materials impact the health of our community and ecosystem.

Join Brittney Albin and Stuart Shell to learn about the latest trends in waste reduction and recycling. We’ll also cover some new initiatives to transform the building industry, such as the Red List created for the Living Building Challenge. You’ll leave with a framework for understanding the ways materials are impacting you and your community. You’ll also have some new tools for becoming involved in the movement to transform our relationship with ‘stuff.’
