Hello Majid, thank you for the question. The USGBC welcomes and encourages participation from users all over the world, including developing countries. However, the stipulation that the volunteer must be associated with a member organization cannot be waived. I encourage you to talk to your employer about becoming a USGBC member organization. Membership begins at $300. They can learn more about the befits of membership by visiting We are always happy to answer any questions the organization leadership might have.

Hello. I'm, interested in applying to be considered as USGBC committee member, but realized that the applicant must be employed by a USGBC LEED member company. My employer is not currently a USGBC member, but I personally am a member of a regional USGBC network. Will that suffice in lieu of this employment requirement? Thanks

Hi Ruth and thank you for your question. All LEED Committee volunteers need to be employed by a USGBC member organization; local community membership or individual memberships are not applicable in this case. Unfortunately, there is no flexibility with this policy. We do occasionally have opportunities for external subject matter experts. If you want to be notified of these types of opportunities, you’re welcome to sign up for the LEED Committee Volunteer Opportunities Mailing List ( Also, make note, this requirement is specific to the LEED Committees, and there are other opportunities without this requirement you can find here:
