I looked at the Essex Crossing website, and the cheapest housing available is a condo to purchase for $1,600,000. Hardly "affordable." There are also rentals, but I can't obtain what the rents are within their site. Probably similar to the monthly payment on a $1.6+ million condo. Perhaps there were some affordable units built-in originally, but they are probably extremely difficult to get. I know that the New York City Housing Authority was applying for a HUD Choice Grant. Hopefully, they will eventually receive a grant and true affordable housing can be built - as well as some neighborhood revitalization, where it's necessary.
