Inquiry

Is the intent of this credit met when future expansion, as part of the master plan, is built in as an upper story shell?\n\nA school system is constructing a new elementary school on a previously developed site. The school will initially serve 680 students but has been designed to eventually support 740 students. The master plan approved by the Board of Education includes a third story unfinished space for 4 future classrooms. \n\nThe school district wishes to minimize the negative impacts of future development on the project site by constructing the shell of the future classroom wing as part of the initial project construction. The interior fit-out of the classrooms will occur when the school enrollment is expanded. All credits are calculated taking into account the fully-built out school at 740 core enrollment. No impacts from additional parking, site lighting, stormwater or loss of green space will occur under this approach. Furthermore, the owner is supplying a signed letter confirming that future fit-out will meet the same or better LEED criteria as the rest of the project.
