Inquiry
It is our intent in submitting this CIR to receive confirmation that this site boundary will fall within the LEED-NC guidelines.\n\nThe project in question is primarily a new 16-storey bed tower addition to an existing hospital, but also includes some remodeling in the existing space, site work around both the addition and the existing building as well as site work throughout the hospital campus. The current proposed boundary of the project lies at the exterior wall of the existing building and includes site work surrounding only the addition itself. Also, we have included the addition of a 5th floor on an existing structure which connects to the bed tower. This does not allow the boundary to be drawn on a single plan drawing, but requires multiple plans to clearly identify it. The definition of this boundary was created in part based on a CIR dated 5/23/07 which states, "To certify the addition as NC, you would include only data from the addition in your application. Therefore, the renovated and unrenovated spaces of the existing building would not be included and would not be certified."\n\nWithin the project, there are also multiple locations where temporary changes have occurred. For instance, the helipad needed to be temporarily relocated during construction, but will eventually be permanently installed on top of the new tower. Our site boundary excludes the locations for the temporary helipad and similar temporary functions. This decision was made based on two primary factors. First, most of these site locations are not immediately adjacent to the current site boundary. Second, these temporary locations will return to original use and original physical attributes after the project.\n\nThe definition of this boundary has implications for other possible credits as well and we find it necessary to receive guidance on our interpretation.
