Inquiry
This project is located on a multi-building medical campus in Illinois. Typical of a campus, it is composed of numerous existing buildings, parking structures, surface lots and circulation streets. The campus is proposing to build, as separately bid projects, a new inpatient building, some additions to existing buildings, and a new multi-level parking structure. Our intent is to pursue LEED Certification for the new inpatient building, a new multi-level parking structure and new portions of site work on the campus, but not the additions to existing buildings. To satisfy this credit, we intend to pursue option #2. This raises a question is regarding the top level of the parking structure we are including in our LEED Project Boundary (LPB). This structure has parking on all levels, including the uncovered top level. We wish to clarify that the top level of parking is defined as site hardscape, and would be included in the 50% (or less) of the total parking which is uncovered, and that this area is not a roof cover requiring a SRI of 29 as otherwise required in SS cr7.1 Option #2. It would seem inconsistent to say that this level is both site hardscape (which includes parking) and a roof cover.
